Blue Horizons
SeaWorld San Diego
SeaWorld Orlando

Creating Blue Horizons for SeaWorld Orlando and San Diego was truly one of the most magical collaborations of my career. This Cirque-style show with whales, dolphins, birds, trainers, and acrobats became one of the most collaborative and highly regarded shows in the history of the theming industry. Working with InMotion Entertainment and a brilliant creative team, I designed a fantastical "world of blue" where the divide between water and sky dissolved into a breathtaking spectacle, crafting an emotional hero's journey for Marina who discovers wonder and friendship in an underwater dreamscape.
My scenic design was inspired by the sculptural works of Lee Bontecou and Claire Falkenstein, incorporating sweeping, stylized waves with bubbles in various shades of blue and turquoise. A magnificent curvilinear space frame truss soared above the pool, supporting diving platforms shaped like whale flukes and providing rigging points for our aerial performers. I'm particularly proud of how we transformed the concrete stage area into a beautiful spiral "eye" of Marina's dream world—the starting point of her adventure, similar to the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz.
